UK Sound Therapist Training - Practitioner Certificate

Distance Learning & Presence Learning

The UK School for INNER SOUND starts its next Sound Therapy Practitioner Training in September 2008.

LOCATION - Twickenham, Middx

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Our Practitioner Certificate is a training in the use of INNER SOUND, a system of sound and therapeutic music for the expression and integration of the emotions.

The Sound Therapist Practitioner Certificate course includes the following modules:

Introduction to Sound Therapy (a pre-requisite for the Practitioner Certificate training) This module introduces a range of different experiences to help broaden your perspective on the role sound and music play in your life. It takes you on a musical journey through the ages; it gives you the opportunity to share your favourite piece of music with the group; it provides an overview of different types of sound used in sound healing & their harmonic structure; it touches on all the elements that are a part of INNER SOUND - including the voice. We ask you to bring along your favourite piece of music on CD to the course.

Module 1 - How Sound Heals - the first of our theory-based modules which includes the following topics: physics of sound; effect of sound on the biological functions of the body; effect of sound on the physiology of the body; effect of sound on the nervous system (Psychoacoustic)

Module 2 - Theory of Emotion - the second of our theory-based modules which includes the following topics: theory and function of emotions; effect of sound on the emotions; field theory; acoustic and electronically produced sounds; where different instruments resonate.

Module 3 - SOUND TOUCH - A motif is a specific melody or musical note progression. Arden Wilken has identified over 50 different motifs in her ongoing investigation with sound & music, that promote the body's ability to heal itself. A Life Theme represents a combination of several motifs working with one of 12 themes common to the human experience. This module introduces the SOUND TOUCH CD containing 21 of the INNER SOUND motifs and 12 Life Themes together with their therapeutic benefits & enhancement exercises. Topics: 21 musical motifs and exercises: 12 Life Themes and exercises: practical sessions with SOUND TOUCH; how to use our SOUND TOUCH CD as a complement or stand-alone therapy.

Module 4 - Listening Programs I - A detailed introduction to the use of each of the 17 titles within the INNER SOUND range which have been specifically composed as therapeutic music. The CDs can be combined to create Listening Programs and this module introduces what an INNER SOUND Listening Program is; a complete listing of the Themes and Symptoms for the Body, Mind, Emotions and Energetic that they can be used for; and an introduction to the Enhancement Exercises that are recommended to accompany each CD to develop & integrate their effect.

Module 5 - Evaluation Tools - We introduce various ways you can determine which music will be most appropriate for your clients to use - from Interview and observations; from Iris Interpretation; from Body Reading and from Personal use.
We introduce 5 distinct body modes to help you identify different combinations of growth patterns in the body, based on Wilhelm Reich's Character Structures. The Iris interpretations are based on the Rayid method of iridology which relates structural patterns in the eye to modes of communication, learning and behavior.

Module 6 - The Interview Process (Listening Programs II) - How to use the information provided by your clients to create a Listening Program individually tailored to their needs. The Interview Process incorporates both interview & observation using the assessment tools covered in the previous module and the student's own personal experience of the music, drawing on an extensive program of personal listening required as part of your home study. Case study examples form part of the teaching materials.
Topics include: Listening Goals; Creation of an ongoing process with music by the client; How to describe the therapy process and listening goals to the client; How to conduct an interview and session; How to apply the music (Recommendations for professional audio equipment and how to use it).

Module 7- Client-Practitioner Relationship - developing effective communications with your clients; identifying client behavior patterns and how to work with them; code of ethics and professional attitude; review of equipment. Student home study material is used to illustrate teaching examples.

Module 8- Summary & Personal Assessment - A review of all course material; review of your action plan for the training. Students participate in an informal group discussion on a 'question & answer' basis, demonstrating their understanding of the theoretical principles, assessment methods & application of the INNER SOUND tools.

Module - Supervision
Three supervision days are arranged for students to attend during the months following Module 8. These are normally arranged on a 1 day per month basis. (dates to be confirmed in 2008).

Module - Tuning Forks Special Intensive (Practitioner Training) - Students are taught how to use & apply the full range of INNER SOUND Tuning Forks. Our tuning forks are custom-designed aluminum forks in sets of 2, 3, 4 or 13. This module teaches you how to use a 'live sound' tool which incorporates the same theoretical principles taught in our Practitioner training adapted to the use of tuning forks. Students learn basic and advanced protocols for applying the forks in sequences of pairs, each of which produces a 'pure' 5th interval. Students gain practical experience in the exchange of individual treatments under supervision. Group treatments also allow you to experience the effect of the 21 Motifs that have been translated into specific sequences of pairs of forks.
Dates: May 9, 10 & 11, 2008

This course can be taken as a stand-alone training to gain certification as an INNER SOUND Tuning Fork Practitioner.

Module - Autophonetics Special Intensive (non-certificate) - This is an experience-based course using the INNER SOUND 'Motifs'. Students are taught a vocal technique developed by Arden Wilken. The first technique introduces 5 elements that combine resonance & body movement to produce neutralizing, opening, breaking, focusing and integrating effects within the system. The second introduces students to the use of 21 INNER SOUND 'motifs' - short musical phrases or note progressions - that have more specific benefits for a wide range of applications - physical, mental, emotional & energetic. Each motif has been adapted for the voice as opposed to played on a keyboard. These two elements are combined with exercises that create an enhancement of the movement produced in the individual at all levels - body, mind, emotions & energy.

Course includes: Warm-up exercises; Emotional Theory; Softening the musculature for greater breath capacity; Using the 5 sounds of INNER SOUND to balance the emotions; Special healing experience: Healing Chakra journey using your own sound; Learning to sing/vocalize the 21 basic INNER SOUND motifs and practicing the enhancement exercises (visualization, movement and breathing). Dates: June 6, 7 & 8, 2008

For those interested in Autophonetics Practitioner training, students follow the same theory-based training as above with the exception of Module 4 which is substituted by a module called 'Autophonetics & Sound Touch training'. We have both Distance Learning and Presence study options for the theory modules of both trainings.

Additional Information

Our theory-based modules are applicable to all forms of sound therapy and would also be of interest to anyone wishing to develop their understanding of sound & music.

All modules within the training include exercises using sound & music - whether vocal techniques; tuning forks; or selected pieces from the INNER SOUND CD titles. The CDs used in each module form part of the course material students receive and are included in the cost of the training.

Tuning Fork Special Intensive Course - there is no obligation to buy tuning forks as a requirement for taking this course. Students can attend to extend their knowledge & experience of tuning forks as a 'live sound' tool. However, the information is not transferable to ALL tuning forks so in order to produce the effects we teach & demonstrate you will need to buy a set of INNER SOUND tuning forks. Our sets of precision-made tuning forks are manufactured to our frequency specifications and range from 60.00 (2 forks) - 355.00 (13 forks)

PRACTITIONER CERTIFICATION

Upon satisfactory completion of all course requirements (home study, tests, case studies & personal interview for review purposes), students will be eligible for Practitioner certification in the INNER SOUND method.

The School for INNER SOUND® is an approved member of the British Complementary Medicine Association (BCMA) and the Complementary Medical Association (CMA) in the UK. INNER SOUND is also a founder member of the International Association of Sound Therapy.
